If you’ve ever been to Hilton Head Island before, you know that there’s no shortage of fun activities to partake in during your vacation. Between the bike trails, beaches, and aquatic adventures, you’re sure to find great ways to fill your stay.

But let’s cut to the chase, here: no vacation is complete without a good drink. If you’re like us, you think every day of vacation should include a quality drink that’s served up in a great atmosphere, but isn’t ridiculously overpriced. Luckily, you’ve come to the right place for insider info on some of Hilton Head’s best bars. From craft brews to creative cocktails and more, we’ve got you covered. Here’s our guide to 6 unexpected places to grab a great drink on Hilton Head Island.

Hilton Head Distillery

Of course, we think that getting a tasting flight at Hilton Head Distillery should be at the top of your imbibing list. We promise that our rum and vodka will not disappoint – even if you don’t consider yourself a rum or vodka enthusiast, we guarantee you’ll fall in love with our spirits. Everything we produce begins with locally sourced molasses and is hand-crafted from start to finish right here on the island. The best part? You can make the tasting experience your own. With various options for neat samples and craft cocktails, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Not to mention, you get to go home with a souvenir shot glass! And if you have little ones, don’t worry. Our tasting room is fun for the whole family – kids can play a game of Jenga or Uno while the adults sip on drinks and learn a little bit about our distillation process.

Island Winery

Just next door to Hilton Head Distillery is a quaint and creative winery that is certainly worth a visit. From fun and unique berry wines, to standard reds and whites, to seasonal selections, Island Winery has a great variety of products to choose from. Enjoy a tasting flight or share a bottle and cheese plate with friends as you sit among their barrel racks.

Hilton Head Brewing Company

If you haven’t noticed yet, there’s a trend here on Cardinal Road. It’s home to the island’s drink makers and Hilton Head Brewing Company is the third and final stop on our little booze trail. Just a few paces from the distillery and winery is the island’s one and only brewery, and your new go-to for fresh and tasty craft beer. Try a flight or grab a pint to enjoy at the bar. From pilsners and wheat beers, to pale ales and porters, you’re sure to find something you love. The brewery is also adding a beer garden to their property this year – great for bringing the pooch and enjoying those warm summer evenings with a brew in hand!

Local Pie

One of our favorite spots for awesome eats and drinks in a relaxed, yet modern atmosphere, Local Pie is a unique treat. Not only do they have the best pizza in Hilton Head (thin crust, fresh and local ingredients, whole lotta YUM), but they also have one of the best bar programs we’ve seen on the island. With a great array of local beers and local spirits, you won’t want to miss what they have to offer. Most pizza joints lack creativity when it comes to cocktails, but Local Pie is the exception to the rule. Our favorite cocktail is The Redlock – a play on the standard sour, this cocktail features spiced rum made by yours truly, velvet falernum, homemade sour and orange zest. Can you say AMAZING?! We recommend grabbing a spot on their outdoor patio, where you’re likely to catch some live music and can drink the evening away.

Twisted Cork

This cozy wine bar is one of the island’s best-kept secrets and a favorite among locals. With great happy hour deals and delicious flatbreads, this intimate spot is perfect for couples and small friend groups. Even though wine is their specialty, Twisted Cork offers a great cocktail list featuring a collection of creative and delicious martinis. The Espresso Martini and Coconut Cream Pie Martini are our personal favorites. Situated on the south side of the island, we recommend hitting Twisted Cork on Monday night for their weekly Trivia. You can expect challenging questions and a very fun, competitive atmosphere. If you happen to be here during the first week of the month, you might see the Hilton Head Distillery team at Twisted Trivia as the sponsor!

Porter and Pig

Last but certainly not least, we’re finishing off our Best Bars list with another local favorite: Porter and Pig. Nestled in Wexford Plaza, next to Java Burrito, this dimly lit tavern is the ultimate spot for fantastic tapas and quality drinks. When it comes to charcuterie plates, you won’t find anything better than Porter and Pig’s rotating selection of fine meats and cheeses from around the world. We recommend getting the large charcuterie and sharing among friends. As for drinks, Porter and Pig knows how to make a mean one. They don’t have a huge tap list, but each beer is carefully selected for quality and creativity. If you love a good sour, you’ll likely find one here. The cocktails at Porter and Pig are crafted with a great eye for detail and are classy without being snobby. Enjoy a classic Manhattan or get funky with one of their creative concoctions made with our Toasted Coconut Rum.

That’s it…for now! We hope you found some good drinkspiration on this list and we’ll see you at one of our watering holes soon! Cheer’s Y’all.
